5/9/2018 – Kalief’s Legacy: A comedy benefit for Kalief Browder Foundation
Please join us for a night of stand-up comedy for a noble cause. All proceeds will go directly to Kalief Browder Foundation.
Kalief Browder was arrested at the age of 16 for allegedly stealing a backpack. Charged as an adult, Kalief could not afford the $3,000 bail set on his freedom. He was imprisoned for over 1,000 days on Rikers Island without trail, spending 400 of those days in solitary confinement. He was starved, beaten and abused by guards and inmates. Three years after his arrest, Kalief’s charges were dismissed and he was released due to lack of evidence. He committed suicide two years at the age of 22. Kalief sacrificed his childhood and, ultimately, his life. His tragic case was a watershed event of activist calling for reform of the New York criminal justice system. In Kalief’s name: WE DEMAND JUSTICE!

5/10/2018 – ‘Pointillism Revisited’ Gallery Opening
Guy Hepner + The TAX Collection present ‘Pointillism Revisited’, a solo exhibition by Dimitri Likissas. Opening May 10th, ‘Pointillism Revisited’ is a collection of the artist’s newest works, stemming from a long tradition of using distinct dots of color in art, which the viewer’s mind blends together to create the final image.
Playing with chromatic tonality and the dissection of visual planes, Dimitri creates works that seem to move and undulate within the canvas as if attempting to escape their two dimensional confines. While the dots work together in harmony to create the image, their circular nature acts in opposition to his square and rectangular canvases, reminding us of the basic elements of life and how atoms are in a contstant movement – propelling against each other – creating matter itself.
